These terms tell you the rules for using all services provided by EduMates either hosted on our website at www.eduMates.co, integrated or provided via the EduMates Mobile App and the website.

By using EduMates you accept these terms

By using EduMates, you confirm that you accept these terms of use and that you agree to comply with them. If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use EduMates. We recommend that you print a copy of these terms for future reference.

There are other terms that may apply to you

These terms of use refer to the following additional terms, which also apply to your use of EduMates: Our Privacy Policy, which sets out the terms on which we process any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us. By using EduMates, you consent to such processing and you warrant that all data provided by you is accurate. Our Acceptable Use Policy, which sets out the permitted uses and prohibited uses of EduMates. When using EduMates, you must comply with this Acceptable Use Policy.

We may make changes to these terms

We amend these terms from time to time. Every time you wish to use EduMates, please check these terms to ensure you understand the terms that apply at that time.

We may make changes to EduMates

We may update and change EduMates from time to time to reflect changes to EduMates, our users’ needs, our and our business priorities. We will try to give you reasonable notice of any major changes that affect you.

We may suspend or withdraw EduMates

Our site is made available free of charge.

We do not guarantee that EduMates, or any content on it, will always be available or be uninterrupted. We may suspend or withdraw or restrict the availability of all or any part of EduMates for business and operational reasons. We will try to give you reasonable notice of any suspension or withdrawal.

You are also responsible for ensuring that all persons who access EduMates through your internet connection are aware of these terms of use and other applicable terms and conditions, and that they comply with them.

Our site is only for those aged 16 or over

EduMates is only intended for use by persons aged at least 16 years of age. DO NOT USE EDUMATES IF YOU ARE NOT AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE.

You must keep your account details safe

You will be asked to choose a username and password as part of our security procedures. You must treat that information as confidential. You must not disclose it to any third party.

We have the right to disable any user identification code or password, whether chosen by you or allocated by us, at any time, if in our reasonable opinion, you have failed to comply with any of the provisions of these terms of use.

If you know or suspect that anyone other than you know your user identification code or password, you must promptly notify us at contact@eduMates.co.

How you may use material on EduMates

We are the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in EduMates, and in the material published on it (except for user’s contributions – intellectual property rights in those belongs to the user). Those works are protected by copyright laws and treaties around the world. All such rights are reserved.

You must not use any part of the content on EduMates for commercial purposes without obtaining a licence to do so from us or our licensors.

If you copy or download any part of EduMates in breach of these terms of use, your right to use EduMates will cease immediately and you must, at our option, return or destroy any copies of the materials you have made.

Do not rely on information on this site

The information on EduMates is provided for general information only. It is not intended to amount to advice on which you should rely. You must develop your own views regarding a university, an undergraduate or graduate course of study, before taking or refraining from any action on the basis of information obtained from use of EduMates.

Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information on EduMates, we make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the content on EduMates is accurate, complete or up to date.

All the current students and eduMates Experts representing Universities on the website are not official career counsellors and their advice is not to be taken in place of professional advice.

We are not responsible for other people’s websites

Where EduMates contains links to other sites and resources provided by third parties, these links are provided for your information only. Such links should not be interpreted as approval by us of those linked websites or information you may obtain from them. We have no control over the contents of those sites or resources. The applies to all services provided by EduMates, either hosted on our website at www.eduMates.co.

User-generated content is not approved by us

EduMates allows you to interact with other users, including student ambassadors from a number of different universities. This information and these materials have not been verified or approved by us. The views expressed by other users on EduMates do not represent our views or values.

If you wish to complain about information and materials uploaded by other users please email contact@eduMates.com.

Our responsibility for loss or damage suffered by you

  • We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
  • Please note that we only provide EduMates for domestic and private use. You agree not to use EduMates for any commercial or business purposes, and we have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, or loss of business opportunity.

Interacting on EduMates

Whenever you make use of a feature that allows you to post content to EduMates, or interact with other users of EduMates, you must comply with the content standards set out in our Acceptable Use Policy.

You promise that any such contribution does comply with those standards, and you will be liable to us and compensate us for any loss we suffer if you break that promise.

Any content you upload to EduMates will be considered non-confidential and non-proprietary. You retain all of your ownership rights in your content, but you agree for us to use, store and copy that content and to distribute and make it available.

We also have the right to disclose your identity to any third party who is claiming that any interaction or content posted or uploaded by you to EduMates constitutes a violation of their intellectual property rights, or of their right to privacy.

We have the right to remove any posting you make on EduMates if, in our opinion, your post does not comply with the content standards set out in our Acceptable Use Policy.

Rights you are giving us to use comments or contributions you make on EduMates

When you interact with other users, or post comments or any other content to EduMates, you promise that your contribution is your own original work, and you grant us the following rights to use that contribution:

  • The Widget you have signed up to shall be entitled to disclose your name with any contribution.
  • We shall be entitled to undertake research and statistical analysis on your contributions, either for our own purposes or those of others.
  • You agree that you waive all moral rights you may have in the contribution (including, the right to be identified as the author)
  • Any personal data you supply with your contribution may be used as described in our Privacy Policy.

You must not introduce malware onto EduMates

You must not misuse EduMates by knowingly introducing viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or other material that is malicious or technologically harmful. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to EduMates, the server on which EduMates is stored or any server, computer or database connected to EduMates. You must not attack EduMates via a denial-of-service attack or a distributed denial-of service attack. By breaching this provision, you would commit a criminal offence. We will report any such breach to the relevant law enforcement authorities and we will co-operate with those authorities by disclosing your identity to them. In the event of such a breach, your right to use EduMates will cease immediately.

Rules about linking to EduMates

You may link to our home page, provided you do so in a way that is fair and legal and does not damage our reputation or take advantage of it.

You must not establish a link in such a way as to suggest any form of association, approval or endorsement on our part where none exists.

You must not establish a link to EduMates in any website that is not owned by you.

Our site must not be framed on any other site, nor may you create a link to any part of EduMates other than the home page.

We reserve the right to withdraw linking permission without notice.

The website in which you are linking must comply in all respects with the content standards set out in our Acceptable Use Policy.

Which country’s laws apply to any disputes?

If you are a resident of a territory outside India, nothing in these terms will prevent you being entitled to any mandatory consumer protections applicable in the country where you live.

These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Indian Laws. Any dispute arising under these terms and conditions shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.

Privacy policy

Please read this policy carefully before using EduMates’s services. This Privacy Policy details how EduMates processes your personal data.

Protecting your data, privacy and personal information is very important to EduMates Limited (“our”, “us” or “we” or “EduMates”). EduMates shall ensure it complies with the following privacy policy when processing personal data which either you are contacting as a prospective student, eduMates Expert, a new entrant or representing as a current student (“University”).

This policy (together with our terms of use and acceptable use policy and any other documents referred to therein), sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by EduMates. For the avoidance of doubt, EduMates is the data controller and the processor for the purposes of relevant data protection legislation. Please read this privacy policy carefully to understand the types of information we collect from you, how we use that information, the circumstances under which we will share it with third parties, and your rights in relation to the personal data you provide to us.

When visiting EduMates’s website at https://www.edumates.co/ (our “Website”) or using any of the services offered via the Website (the “Services”), or via the EduMates Mobile App, you will be asked to indicate you acknowledge and, where applicable, consent to the practices described in this policy.

Our Website contains links to third party websites. If you follow a link to any of those third-party websites, please note that they have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for their policies or processing of your personal information. Please check these policies before you submit any personal information to such third-party websites.

Information we may collect

We may collect and process the following data about you:


You will be asked to provide us with your information when you:

  • fill in forms on our Website or Mobile App, or correspond with us by phone, email or otherwise;
  • register to use our Services;
  • use the Website, Mobile App or Services;
  • report a problem with our Website, Mobile App or Services; or
  • complete any surveys we ask you to fill in (although you do not have to respond to these if you do not want to).

Current Students: The information you will be asked to provide to us for these purposes will include your first name, last name, photo, phone number, email address, password, country/city/location, languages spoken, academic history (and previous high school; degree/university degree; degree level (undergraduate/postgraduate); university year (1st, 2nd etc.)), an ‘about me’ free text selection and chat conversations and interactions with prospective students.

Prospective students: The information you will be asked to provide to us for these purposes will include first name, last name, email address, password, country, the degree level you are interested in, (undergraduate/postgraduate), whether you have already applied to the university, and chat conversations and interactions with student ambassadors.

New entrants: The information you will be asked to provide to us for these purposes will include first name, last name, email address, password, country, the degree subject/level studies (undergraduate/postgraduate), phone number, and chat conversations and interactions with student ambassadors.

EduMates Experts: The information you will be asked to provide to us for these purposes will include your first name, last name, photo, phone number, email address, password, country/city/location, languages spoken, academic history (and previous high school; degree/university degree; degree level (undergraduate/postgraduate); university year (1st, 2nd etc.)), an ‘about me’ free text selection and chat conversations and interactions with prospective students.


In respect of all users, with regard to each of your visits to our Website or use of the Services via the EduMates widget or Mobile App, we may automatically collect the following information:

  • device-specific information, such as your hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information;
  • technical information about your computer, including where available, your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and analytical purposes; and
  • details of your visits to our Website, including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) clickstream to, through and from our Website (including date and time), length of visits to certain pages, and page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), details of whether you are using the Website or the EduMates or mobile app.

When using our Services, we will be in contact with third parties who may provide us with certain information about you in order to enable your use of the Services.

Where you enter any details relating to a third party, you must have obtained clear permission from the individuals whose data you provide us with before sharing that data with us.

For the avoidance of any doubt, any reference in this privacy policy to your data shall include data about other individuals that you have provided us with.

How we use your information and justification of use.

Use of personal information under EU data protection laws must be justified under one of a number of legal “grounds” and 3MP is required to set out the ground in respect of each use of your personal data in this policy. These are the principal grounds that justify the use of your information by the 3MP:

  • Consent: where you have consented to use of your information (you are providing explicit, informed, freely given consent, in relation to any such use and may withdraw your consent in the circumstance detailed below);
  • Contract performance: where your information is necessary to enter into or perform a contract with you;
  • Legal obligation: where we need to use your information to comply with legal obligations;
  • Legitimate interests: where we use your information to achieve the legitimate interest and the reasons for using it outweigh any prejudice to your data protection rights; and
  • Legal claims: where your information if necessary, to defend, prosecute or make a claim against you or a third party.

In respect of the use of the Services, the 3MP use information held about you (and information about others that you have provided us with) in the following ways:

We will not sell your personal data (or any other data you provide us with) to third-parties; however, we reserve the right to share any data which has been anonymised and/or aggregated. You acknowledge and accept that we own all right, title and interest in and to any derived data or aggregated and/or anonymised data collected or created by us, including extracting questions and answers submitted by prospective students and ambassadors.

Where we store your personal information

The personal data that we collect from you (including email addresses that form part of our prospective marketing database) is processed and stored on our secure computing devices in India, or those of our hosting partner, Amazon Web Services, in India.

Universities based outside the EEA will be subject to local data privacy legislation. A full list of our third-party sub-processors and details of their privacy policies can be found in the table below, which will be updated from time to time. You acknowledge and accept that countries outside the EEA may not provide the same level of adequate protection for the rights and freedoms of data subjects in relation to the processing of personal data.

Your passwords are stored on EduMates’s servers in encrypted form. We do not disclose your account details to anyone except when legally required to do so. It is your responsibility to keep your password secure. Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although EduMates will do its best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our Website, any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent any unauthorised access.

How long we retain your personal data

We will hold the above information for as long as is necessary in order to provide you with the Services, deal with any specific issues that may raise, or otherwise as is required by law or any relevant regulatory body. Once your account is terminated or deactivated, we shall delete the personal data relating to your account within 14 days. Some personal data may need to be retained for longer than this to ensure EduMates can comply with applicable laws and internal compliance procedures, including retaining your email address for marketing communication suppression if you have opted not to receive any further marketing. If information is used for two purposes, we will retain it until the purpose with the latest period expires but we will stop using it for the purpose with a shorter period when that period expires.

We restrict access to your personal information to those persons who need to use it for the relevant purpose(s). Our retention periods are based on business needs and your information that is no longer needed is either irreversibly anonymized (and the anonymized information may be retained) or securely destroyed.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2017/676, you have various rights in relation to your personal data. All of these rights can be exercised by contacting the 3MP as the data controller (you can also contact us at contact@eduMates.co if you have a query as to how we process your personal data).
You have the following rights in relation to your personal data. EduMates, as data processor, shall assist you to effectively exercise your rights:

EduMates will not ordinarily charge you in respect of any requests we receive to exercise any of your rights detailed above; however, if you make excessive, repetitive or manifestly unfounded requests, we may charge you an administration fee in order to process such requests or refuse to act on such requests. Where we are required to provide a copy of the personal data undergoing processing this will be free of charge; however, any further copies requested may be subject to reasonable fees based on administrative costs.

Requests to stop processing your personal data or deleting your personal data will likely mean that you are no longer able to use EduMates’s Services, or at least those aspects of the Services which require the processing of the types of personal data you have asked us to delete, which may result in you no longer being able to use the Services.


EduMates does not use cookies, but we do temporarily cache your data in the browser using localStorage (which is similar to cookies). This stores your profile data so that you don’t have to log in each time you use EduMates on the same browser. If you log out, your cached data is immediately cleared. If you clear the cache on your browser, this will also remove the data, so you will need to log in next time you use our Services.

Changes to this policy

Any changes we make to our privacy policy in the future will be posted on this page, and where appropriate, notified to you by email or notifications via the EduMates widget. We therefore encourage you to review the Website from time to time to stay informed of how we are processing your information.

Acceptable Use Policy

This acceptable use policy sets out the terms between you and us under which you may access our website eduMates.co and any EduMates widget launched from a mobile application (EduMates). This acceptable use policy applies to all users of, and visitors to, EduMates.

Your use of EduMates means that you accept, and agree to abide by, all the policies in this acceptable use policy, which supplement our Terms of Use.

Prohibited uses

You may use EduMates only for lawful purposes. You may not use EduMates:

  • In any way that breaches any applicable local, national or international law or regulation.
  • In any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect.
  • For the purpose of harming or attempting to harm minors in any way.
  • To send, knowingly receive, upload, download, use or re-use any material which does not comply with our Content Standards (This document needs to be made).
  • To transmit, or procure the sending of, any unsolicited or unauthorised advertising or promotional material or any other form of similar solicitation (spam).
  • To knowingly transmit any data, send or upload any material that contains viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time-bombs, keystroke loggers, spyware, adware or any other harmful programs or similar computer code designed to adversely affect the operation of any computer software or hardware.

You also agree:

  • Not to reproduce, duplicate, copy or re-sell any part of EduMates in contravention of the provisions of our Terms of Use.
  • Not to access without authority, interfere with, damage or disrupt:
    • any part of EduMates;
    • any equipment or network on which EduMates is stored;
    • any software used in the provision of EduMates; or
    • any equipment or network or software owned or used by any third party.

Interactive services

EduMates provides the ability for prospective students and student ambassadors to communicate and converse with one another. This communication is not moderated by us.

We are under no obligation to oversee, monitor or moderate any interactive service we provide on EduMates, and we expressly exclude our liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of any interactive service by a user in contravention of our content standards.

The use of any of our interactive services by a minor is subject to the consent of their parent or guardian. We advise parents who permit their children to use an interactive service that it is important that they communicate with their children about their safety online, as moderation is not fool proof. Minors who are using any interactive service should be made aware of the potential risks to them.

In no event will be liable for any expense, loss or damage including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss or damage, or any expense, loss or damage whatsoever arising from use, or loss of use, of data, arising out of or in connection with the use of this website. In case of any variation between what has been produced on the website about Act, Rules, Regulations, Policy Statements etc and that contained in the relevant Act, Rules, Regulations, Policy Statements etc, with the department the latter shall prevail .

Content standards

These content standards apply to any and all material which you contribute to EduMates (contributions), and to any communication you have with any other user on EduMates.

You must comply with the spirit and the letter of the following standards. The standards apply to each part of any contribution as well as to its whole.

Contributions must:

  • Be accurate (where they state facts).
  • Be genuinely held (where they state opinions).
  • Comply with applicable law in the UK and in any country from which they are posted.

Contributions must not:

  • Contain any material which is defamatory of any person.
  • Contain any material which is obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory.
  • Promote sexually explicit material.
  • Promote violence.
  • Promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
  • Infringe any copyright, database right or trade mark of any other person.
  • Be likely to deceive any person.
  • Be made in breach of any legal duty owed to a third party, such as a contractual duty or a duty of confidence.
  • Promote any illegal activity.
  • Be threatening, abuse or invade another’s privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety.
  • Be likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person.
  • Be used to impersonate any person, or to misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person.
  • Give the impression that they emanate from us, if this is not the case.
  • Advocate, promote or assist any unlawful act such as (by way of example only) copyright infringement or computer misuse.

Suspension and termination

We will determine, in our discretion, whether there has been a breach of this acceptable use policy through your use of EduMates. When a breach of this policy has occurred, we may take such action as we deem appropriate.

Failure to comply with this acceptable use policy constitutes a material breach of the Terms Of Use upon which you are permitted to use EduMates, and may result in our taking all or any of the following actions:

  • Immediate, temporary or permanent withdrawal of your right to use EduMates.
  • Immediate, temporary or permanent removal of any posting or material uploaded by you to EduMates.
  • Issue of a warning to you.
  • Legal proceedings against you for reimbursement of all costs on an indemnity basis (including, but not limited to, reasonable administrative and legal costs) resulting from the breach.
  • Further legal action against you.
  • Disclosure of such information to law enforcement authorities as we reasonably feel is necessary.

We exclude liability for actions taken in response to breaches of this acceptable use policy. The responses described in this policy are not limited, and we may take any other action we reasonably deem appropriate.

Changes to the acceptable use policy

We may revise this acceptable use policy at any time by amending this page. You are expected to check this page from time to time to take notice of any changes we make, as they are legally binding on you. Some of the provisions contained in this acceptable use policy may also be superseded by provisions or notices published elsewhere on EduMates.
